    Janice describes herself as having lived a lifetime of creative practice, working across painting, mixed media, photography, printmaking, graphic design and clothing design. The opportunity to study a Bachelor of Fine Art and Visual Culture (Curtin) fulfilled a lifelong ambition, invigorating and affirming her artistic direction.

    ​Janice is inspired by the power of art to engage human connection. At the heart of her work is mark-making as a shared language. Her paintings develop from fragments of childhood, inspirations from family life, and references to narratives inspired by her love of reading.

    ​She enjoys the focus of the painting process, of selecting and applying colour, blending, layering, washing, removing and repeating. As the painting emerges, space opens for reflection and a sense of calm.

    ​Janice believes when a painting is finished, it is no longer hers - viewers imbue their own meaning and connection. The artist's control ends where the viewer's experience begins. Her hope is that her works connect with the viewer, evoking an emotional response through the suggestion of shared memory and experience.
