The light, the smells, the neat little rows of vineyards and olive trees and of course the iconic Cyprus trees all had an immediate impact on me. But on closer inspection it was the history that permeated those hills, the old twisted boughs of the trees, the chiming bells in the distance, the narrow winding tracks and unchanged buildings that remained from centuries ago, the gathering of friends and family and food and the no nonsense approach to living that the Italians seem to pull off with such flair and sophistication. These memories of Tuscany will always remain.

  • JANE THOMPSON

Jane was born and raised in the country on a sheep and cattle property in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales.

Working predominantly in acrylics, oil sticks and graphite, Jane enjoys creating with fast drying materials as they enable her to capture the energy and freedom in the spontaneous moment. For Jane there are no rules, no boundaries, no expectations and no plan of what it 'should be'; the process is openly expressive and guided by the energy of the creation and the energy from Jane herself.

Closely connected to nature, Jane has recently focused her attention to the elements of our natural world; in particular water which has signified a more fluid and layered approach to her process. She also applies a daily writing practice to engage words, ideas and stories inviting a more spiritual aliveness to her work.

"Expressive, gestural and layered, I paint under the infuences of our internal and external complexities. Always pondering what it is to be human, my artwork focuses broadly on the hopes we have in the familiar, the ones we have for the unknown and the belief that nature will always inform and guide the next step".
