MICHELLE GRAHAM

I am an emerging abstract artist based in Brisbane, creating textured, layered works that explore how memory and place shape us. My practice is guided by an instinctive response to landscape - places I've stood, passed through, or held onto - and the quiet emotions they leave behind.

Working primarily with a palette knife, I build depth and movement through layers that are scraped back and reworked until they find balance. The process is physical and meditative - slow art in a fast world. Each mark records a moment of thought or feeling, often revealing something I didn't know was there. I'm drawn to the tension between calm and energy, stillness and movement. The surfaces hold traces of both - the quiet persistence of making, and the rhythm of change.

Ultimately, my paintings are not about capturing a scene but evoking a sense of it. A place, a memory, a fleeting light - something familiar yet hard to name. Slow art, fast world. Art that feels like memory.
